Alex Summers, younger sibling of Cyclops, has always lived in his brother's shadow. Even when he was leading X-Factor, Alex still felt the pressure to fill his brother's shoes. During his time with X-Factor, Havok was transported to an alternate world where he led a team of mutants called the Six and had a son named Scotty. He was forced to leave that world when his friends came after him. He joined the X-Men for a time, but became disillusioned with them after losing his new love, Scanner. Now, after a time with the X-Corps, Havok has returned to the X-Men to lead the team's terrorist front and do the dirty work that the 'real' X-Men can't afford to.

Having become disillusioned with the government, Avalanche returned to his life of crime and most recently was a member of the Masters of Evil. He's ready to leave that life behind for good, as he's now pledged himself to the terrorist X-Men's cause.
